The Kaimuki High School Foundation was established in 2001 by volunteers, to help better serve and educate Kaimuki High School students. The goal of the Foundation is to raise money to assist in providing technology, equipment, training, and additional support for academic and extracurricular activities that otherwise might not be available through the normal resources of Kaimuki High School, and to sponsor projects on or around the campus that can serve as a source of pride for current students and alumni. Through the generosity of alumni, the Foundation raised approximately $15,000 in 2002, and pledged $5,000 to assist Kaimuki High School in fulfilling its Technology Plan.
Through the generosity of alumni and friends
of KHS, the Foundation has been able to make a difference. This past
schoolyear, money raised by the Foundation was used to help with the
establishment of the School's computer center. And, on August 12, 2003,
dedication ceremonies were held to celebrate the donation of Hawaiian
Umeke by '53 alumnus Stewart
Medeiros, who was honored in 1993 as a
"living treasure of Hawai'i" for his magnificent calabash sculptures.
Through the dedication and hard work of Ricarte Tumacder '72 and Cameron
Plia '73 and the financial support of the KHS Alumni Association and the
Foundation, Mr. Medeiro's works of art have a permanent home at KHS in the
handcrafted display cases built by Ricky and Cameron in the library. We
believe both of these projects will be a source of pride for the School
and the community for years to come.
