The  dedication ceremony of alumnus Stewart Medeiros’ (’53) donation of 22 wood turning art treasures to his alma mater. Medeiros was designated a Living Treasures of Hawaii by Honpa Hongwanji in 1993; moreover, his umeke can be found around the world from England’s Buchkingham Palace to Japan’s Imperial Palace. The 22 art pieces are housed in two display cases specifically constructed by alumni volunteers Ricarte Tumacder (’72) and Cameron Pila (’73). Through the combined efforts of these two alumni, the KHS Foundation and the KHS Alumni Association, Stewart Medeiros’ art is now showcased in its new home—the Kaimuki High School Library. With his artwork, Medeiros hopes to convey this message of hope and inspiration to all Kaimuki High School students:
“One should never give up in their search of life, themselves, their dreams, and goals. Quitting is never a choice.”
