I am honored to be a guest blogger on Rodney Lee's MidLife Crisis in the Honolulu Advertiser. He asked me to write about our Hawaii 74 50th Birthday Bash and you can find it on http://midlifecrisis.honadvblogs.com/2010/05/27/spotlight-on-hawaii-74/

It was difficult to condense all the memories into just a blog post, but then there's room for comments so please jump on board with a screen name and add your memories too!  If you're not class of 1974, just come on in and say hi!

Rod works at the Hon Advertiser writes about all the things we remember from the good old days.  He and his wife Paula are about the nicest people you'll ever know, I'm so happy to call them my friends.

The status of the employees of the Advertiser remains in limbo, many people will be affected. The blogs are affected. The blogs that many readers have come to know as family. We are in the last days, please share your support for Rod.

Mahalo, and I hope you enjoy the post.

KHS '74 35th Class Reunion

On Saturday April 11, 2009 Natsunoya TeaHouse was the scene of a special evening of food, fun and celebration of years of friendship.  Mahalo to all who made it so much fun.

Honored guests included  Mrs. Fujiko Motobu, Mrs. Evelyn Chang, Mrs. Shirley Yanagisawa, and Mr. Barry Masuo.  They had just as much fun as we did as classmates.

Food was ono and plentiful.  In addition to poke, soy beans, and boiled peanuts,  classmates provided selections of even more pupus.  See the list of acknowledgements for generous donations of ono grinds.

Everyone was so full on the pupus that we barely made it through the actual dinner.  At the end of the night, there were 2 tables of pupus and 3 cases of soda left.  Not to mention the tons of leftover Natsunoya food they so graciously boxed up for us so classmates could take home.

Emceed by Russ Tanji and Jan (Yamamoto) Heiser, valuable door prizes were given throughout the evening that included generous gift baskets, numerous gift cards, assorted gifts, and the all coveted $50 and $100 cash envelopes.

Some highlights included impromptu dancing by Russ and Jan and the crazy antics of John "I So Shy" Ruiz.  The "Bus Co" table scored big with door prizes as did all the teachers!  And no, it wasn't "rigged".

Winner of "Best Comment Award" goes to Mr. Barry Masuo for saying "take back my door prize and let the kids win it".  THE KIDS.  LOL  Thank you Mr. Masuo, that made a roomful of 53 yr olds feel real good.  (we let him keep his prize)

Some of us continued the party with karaoke and more fun!

Yes, we had a blast!  Stay tuned for upcoming events because the party will continue on!

Aloha from your Reunion Committee: Ivan Lee, Les Kobata, Russell Tanji, Wendell Sukita, Mark Kanetsuna, Aimee (Matsunaga) Ogata, Ann (Nakamura) Kinningham, Ann Isobe, and Jan (Yamamoto) Heiser
