1.     MEETING MINUTES:

The minutes of the Board meeting of April 13, 2004 were reviewed.  A correction was made to the Secretary’s name.

A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of April 13, 2004 as corrected.  Motion carried unanimously.

2.     COMMITTEE REPORTS:

A.        Distribution Committee:

A lengthy discussion occurred over the amount of money that should be made available this coming academic year for distribution to those who submit proposals.  A motion was made and seconded to make $15,000.00 available for distribution, and to keep $19,000.00 in reserve, anticipating that we will have at least $6,000.00 in operating expenses.  It was decided that it would be helpful for the Foundation to see the types of proposals which will be submitted by the faculty, staff and students, which may help identify long-term projects for the Foundation to adopt.

The motion carried unanimously.  It was also decided that Ohana O Mele, Vocalz, the NHS and ROTC should be encouraged to apply for funds, so that the Foundation may assist their efforts as much as possible.

A motion was made and seconded to adopt the Distribution Committee’s proposed application for funds.  The motion carried unanimously.

B.                 Fundraising Committee:

Discussion was held regarding the next fundraiser.  It was decided that by the next meeting, the Foundation would have to decide what the fundraiser would be.  There is a possibility that the fundraiser could be held in October 2005, which would allow ample time to plan a Battle of the Bands:

There will be a Battle of the Bands type of gathering of the class of ’72 organized by Kalani alumni on July 31, 2004 at the Hawaiian Hut.  That will be a good time to talk to the groups performing.

It was suggested that the Foundation look into the possibility of securing sponsors to provide food and drink for all attendees.  Steve will e-mail Marilyn Moniz Kahoohanohano for the sports schedule.

3.     REMINDERS:

Next meeting topics:

1.                  Different ideas to keep the fundraising momentum going – i.e. postcards, newsletters.

2.                  How to expand the base of donors.
